do this
Are you feeling the big ick right now? Us too. While we always knew the path to justice and equity wasn’t linear, we didn’t quite expect it to have so many loops backwards.
If you’re feeling a bit blah, but also with a burning desire to take action, we suggest starting here:
1. Refresh your values
Are your values specific and unique? When did you last give them a refresh? Time to check in with your values and ensure that they’re giving you enough guidance for decision-making and prioritizing. If your values sound like they could belong to that person down the hall or some random person you bump into in the coffee shop, let’s dig down a bit more and ensure that they really tell a story about you.
2. Develop accountability processes
We need concrete, accessible and power-balancing methods for holding ourselves and each other accountable. At Ablaze, we’re no longer on team “speak truth to power”. This invites too much vulnerability, especially for those who are already vulnerable or precarious. Instead, let’s develop pro-active systems and processes that put accountability at the forefront.
3. Work on consent-based feedback processes
Do you know how your team likes to receive feedback? Let’s develop some understanding now, before we need to give feedback so that we can improve our communication and learn from and with each other in ways that are supportive rather than harmful.
